BEAVER COMMUNITY FAIR TO HOLD TOWN HALL MEETING

BEAVER SPRINGS, PA ~ As state funding continues to decrease and fair facilities age, the Beaver Community Fair has been grappling with ways to keep the longstanding community event alive resulting in changes to the 2012 fair fees.

A few years ago, funding from the state was at or very near the level needed to cover the premiums earned by fair exhibitors. However, in 2011, the fair paid out more than $28,000 in premiums while receiving less than $9,000 in funding from the state. Therefore, it had to rely on parking and exhibit entry fees, sponsorships and vendor fees to keep a balanced budget.

On top of these funding problems, the fairground facilities have begun to show age, and upgrades are needed to maintain the accessibility to all.

After a lengthy discussion at the Feb. 21, 2012, board meeting, the board decided to remove the parking fee and charge a gate admittance fee at the 2012 fair.

The fee structure is $3 per person for a daily pass or $13 per person for a weekly pass. Children under 5 will be admitted for free. A $5 nightly ride wristband also is available. Admittance passes will be made available to 4-H and FFA exhibitors and vendors at reduced or no cost.

A town hall meeting is scheduled for March 12, 2012 beginning at 7:00 pm in the Memorial Building on the fairgrounds to explain this change to the community and stakeholders. read more...
